Biography

Dr Aitken completed a Bachelor of Science with Honours in Human Kinetics at the University of Ottawa, Canada in 2006. In 2007 she completed a Bachelor of Biotechnology with First Class Honours in Population Health Stream at the Menzies Research Institute Tasmania. Dr Aitken recently completed her PhD which examined the role of subchondral bone in osteoarthritis.

Research Interest

Dr Aitken\'s research in osteoarthritis focuses on identifying risk factors for disease onset and progression. Dr Aitken is interested in knee structural abnormalities, including bone marrow lesions, meniscal pathology and cartilage damage, as well as lifestyle and environmental influences including physical activity, obesity, vitamin D and diet. Her research aims to gain a better understanding of the disease process in order to develop more effective and safe treatments and preventative strategies for osteoarthritis.
